They don't guarantee but they go far much more possible. More megapixels ways improve resolution and detail. Larger sensors gather more light and allow you to shoot more in tougher weather. More controls and variations in shooting let you capture more details and determine what you lot want to capture. Fifty-fifty an entry level trunk with kit lens will be much ameliorate than the 5 megapixel camera in your phone

No they don't guarantee a better picture than any cheap camera. Nonetheless, expensive cameras and lenses give you wider subject options and more chances of getting good images.

If, for example, yous are a professional sports photographer, a meridian of the line DSLR will give you a much improve take chances of getting a cracking action shot. Also, if you want to photograph wild fauna, take decent images in poor light, significantly crop your images and make large prints, then expensive gear is ameliorate suited to the task.

No, they don't guarantee amend pictures, simply better photos can exist had if you put effort into information technology.

Expensive cameras are oftentimes hard to use well. Far too often on these forums we see people who buy a high-end photographic camera, and are greatly disappointed with the results.

A very common problem is misfocus, coupled with narrow depth of field, leading to a blurrier image than what a typical smartphone would deliver. Another problem is the apply of manual controls on such cameras: often settings are chosen poorly, leading to images that are all black or all white, or extremely noisy, or with a strong color bandage, or are overall soft. For these reasons, I suggest that beginners showtime with full automatic mode, and start changing settings gradually, coupling theoretical knowledge with practical experience, besides equally getting feedback from experts whenever they get unexpectedly poor results.

I suppose a common belief is that these expensive cameras do all of the work for the photographer, while instead, much more is required from the camera operator to go expert results. Photography is an art that requires commitment, even though it may exist much less demanding that other arts.

Very well said and I wholeheartedly agree.

Can I add that for some people, with the right body for them, allows them to modify their settings on the fly without taking their eye off the action.

For me personally a camera with more dedicated and assignable buttons means a quicker response from me to take the picture I want at that precise moment or take several with different settings with seconds of each other. The lack of having to card delve for me is priceless. It is not ever near the quality merely handling, feel, and speed of response, although if you get information technology correct, quality also come with the residuum of the bundle.

But never buy expensive gear if y'all call back it will amend your images without leaning about the nuts and how to use a camera manually.

Yous could, but you would become better video quality from a dedicated video photographic camera/dslr/mirrorless. Even a few go pros might be better than your phone camera

More than expensive cameras offer boosted features, many of which are helpful in certain circumstances. About of the features are not specifically concerned with "image quality".

For example, a more than expensive camera may have better weather sealing. This can make it easier to shoot in low-cal pelting.

A more expensive camera may shoot more frames per 2nd. This can get in easier to capture exactly the right moment of a fast moving subject.

A more expensive camera may offer better auto-focus. This can brand it easier to get an image that'southward in-focus.

A more than expensive photographic camera may be more durable, longer lasting, and better able to withstand abuse.

A more expensive photographic camera may offer better metering. This can make it easier to get better exposure.

A more expensive camera may offer additional convenience features including Wi-Fi, GPS, NFC, congenital-in intervalometers, faster sync speeds, shorter shutter lag and/or a wider range of shutter speeds.

A more expensive camera may offer more customization, and easier access to avant-garde functionality.

A more expensive camera might offer vary high pixel counts, which tin can be useful in certain atypical circumstances.

A more than expensive photographic camera might have a larger sensor, which offers yous more choices in trading depth of field for depression lite capability.

.

None of these are guarantees of getting a better movie. In general the biggest factor in getting a better motion-picture show is the skill of the photographer.

Yet, these features can make it easier to photograph under challenging circumstances, or when you have unusual needs.

Depends on what you call amend. For me aye, they give me more control over auto focus, DOF, dissonance, DR, perspective, focal length, ect. It's far more comfortable to use for me equally well, as pinching a phone in hand for 2 hours is tantamount to walking on hot coals.

When phones can comfortably give me photos ameliorate than the comparisons beneath, i may change my mind. Tin you tell which two are phone photos without looking at the exif?

Beneath, perhaps my favorite photograph i have taken. Aside from being fun, i desire my family to have moments to cherish, perhaps for my kids to share with their children some solar day.

I institute your quiz to be dead-like shooting fish in a barrel, a no-brainer.  Two of the photos were taken with accented disregard for field of depth and focus.  Then either they were taken with a cell telephone, or they were taken by complete first-time-always photographer.  Judging by the other photos, I decided information technology wasn't the photographer.

I doubtable you can get better photos with a cell phone than many others would get with a high end DSLR.

The lensman plays a much bigger role than the camera.
