Computer Science Society is the oldest organization at Cal Poly Pomona. We are one of the largest clubs that host events regularly and advise our members on the next path to success. Our motto is "Connect passion to empathy".

OUR MISSION

Connectivity

Connectivity, both socially and technically, is something in which our club focuses on as we prioritize providing our members with the opportunity to connect and build networks with professionals and peers. These connections allow them to reach new heights, and technology aids our club with connecting to the world, allowing members to enhance their knowledge and experience. We aim to unite our students and create an inclusive environment where they will strive the most.

Development

Continuous technological advancement is a crucial driving force for society. During this tech storm, the improvement of resources and tools is always a goal in the industry. We aim to spread knowledge on this development through many of our activities. Whether they are technical or social development activities, we believe that the tools we provide will enhance one's knowledge in both their technical and non-technical skills and ultimately guiding them to become a better person, one day at a time.

Innovation

As the world is actively evolving, we need to prepare for these changes and adapt to them as fast as we can. The key for innovation lies in the hands of future generations pursuing a role in the tech industry and how keen they are in detecting, analyzing, and solving global problems. To prepare for a vastly improving and innovating industry, our club promotes life-long active learning to build robust and timeless skill sets. Therefore, we strive to emphasize how significant and inventive new tech solutions are to society.

President

Hi everyone, my name is Thuan (Dustin) Le. I am a transferred fourth-year student here at Cal Poly Pomona and currently serving as the president for the Computer Science Society in the CS department. Prior to becoming the club president, I served as an intern in the Computer Science Society and joined multiple CS and non-CS clubs on campus. My initiative coming in to this club was to help create an inclusive and equal environment where students get to learn new things about technology and innovate to solve problems.

Vice President

Hello there, my name is Ricky Fok! I was the previous Treasurer and now the current Vice President of the Computer Science Society. I am a second-year computer science student here at Cal Poly Pomona, and I hope our club can assist you in your courses, inspire ideas, and educate you about the vast field of computer science. I look forward to working with each and every one of you in any way that I can, cheers!

Secretary

Hello everyone, my name is Ashley Yu, I am a third-year CS student here at Cal Poly Pomona and I am going to be graduating this year. I am currently the secretary of CSS and I will be joining the workforce soon as a Software Engineer for Northrop Grumman. I hope that I will be able to meet as many fellow CS students as possible before I leave CPP to further expand our knowledge in the field in innovative ways.

Treasurer

Hey everyone! My name is Prathista Annapareddi, and I am currently a third-year Computer Science major here at Cal Poly Pomona. As the treasurer of CSS, I am excited to be able to provide opportunities for members to network with important in-field mentors and have access to resources and workshops that will help them grow and satisfy their academic curiosity. I was first exposed to CS and coding at a young age and soon fell in love with technology. One of the main reasons I decided to pursue a CS degree was because of the endless possibilities CS provides to anyone and everyone with access to the knowledge and technology. I have a love for learning new languages that has allowed me to learn how to understand and speak over 5 languages and driven me to learn how to code in Python, Java, C++, etc. I hope to work in the field of Cybersecurity in the future. I am looking forward to helping our club members through their journey as a CS major here at CPP. I believe a priority is to strive to create a warm and connected environment where members can learn from one another and foster communication and growth, both academically and socially.

Historian

Hello everyone, my name is Sandra Masannat and I am currently a third-year Computer Science major here at Cal Poly Pomona. I am serving as the historian of CSS and have previously been a Quality Assurance Intern at the Naval Welfare Surface Center-Corona and am currently working on a collaboration project with Northrop Grumman through our school! I hope our club can help you during your journey as a CS major as we aim to create an environment where one can learn new things and take advantage of what we have to offer.

Public Relations

Hey everyone, my name is Ketan Joshi and I am currently a second-year student at Cal Poly Pomona majoring in Computer Science. I have been fascinated by the world of technology ever since I was kid, starting with my interest in video games and how much I would play on the computer. In my free time, I like to play video games, hang out with friends, work out, play basketball, and go on long drives while blasting my music. In the future, I hope to do work and research in the field of Artificial Intelligence. As someone who loves to interact and connect with various people, I want to bring and emphasize this important concept as a core club value.

Webmaster

My name is Yennhi Dang and I'm a second-year CS major. I love front-end development because it is one of the many ways I can put my creative tendencies to use. I strive to become better with time and experience. I designed the CSS website and hope you guys like it!

Webmaster

Hey guys, my name is Luke Dinh and I'm a first-year CS major. I don't know what I really want to do for a career yet, and I hope I figure that out in the time that I spend with the club. Besides programming, I like to work out and play video games with my friends. I wrote all the HTML, CSS, and Javascript required to make the website you're looking at right now! If you have any suggestions on improving our club website, please feel free to tell me or Yennhi.

EVENTS

Semester: Fall 2020

Computer Science Society Project Initiative (CSSPI)

This series of events is to help students apply their useful skills that they can learn outside of classes to solve something interesting. Whether in education, the environment, or of their own problems. This project initiative represents learning by doing. An example is learning the latest frameworks and applying them to your full potential.

Web Design

If you are interested in learning how to design a website and want to showcase some of your meaningful skills as part of our club, we would love your contribution in making our website more innovative and interactive. This event is to walk you through building a website and showcase it as part of our club's projects showcase.

Speaker Events

Want to know what it is like working as a Software Engineer, Product Manager or Data Scientist? We have a series of speaker events where each speaker will walk you through their experiences, talk about their daily routines, and even share some of their advice to us students.

Recruiter Events

We want to ensure that you have some opportunities besides what is already provided by the school to make connections with recruiters who are interested in the work you are doing. You will get to learn about the company's culture and an opportunity to ask questions to help you learn more about the company.

Workshops

Occasionally, there will be events where you get to see other professionals apply their skills, either technically or some skills assessments to guide you to the right paths. We hold technical workshops such as web development, AI Implementation, and other career development for you to explore.
